Ta daa!
Here it is, at last. My little (biggish) corner of the Silk & Cotton Co. showroom on Somerset Road, Greenpoint, opened to the public yesterday. Let’s take a tour:
Eagle-eyed blog readers will recognise lots of the furniture from my studio showroom. I think I’ve been subconsciously assembling this shop in the background for quite some time. Lots and lots of tea towels, cards, purses, ceramics and whatnot for sale.
May I introduce my very first piece of furniture design (below). I sketched this divider unit onto a piece of paper, handed it to my able cabinetmaker friend, Steven Brooker of Gibb Cabinet Works, and look what he made! Perfect for displaying my new range of runners, aprons and napkins (win them here and here). Behind the unit, you can see more of the Silk & Cotton Co. showroom, full of yummy textile goodness.
My favourite bit? It has to be the Skinny laMinx sign on the wall, inspired by classic 1940’s apartment block signage all over Cape Town. I had made by the type-sensitive-but-strong artist Kevin Brand. If this shop o’ mine doesn’t work out, I think I might change the name of our apartment block and put the sign up there instead 🙂
Please come and visit my shop inside the Silk & Cotton Co. showroom, just above the Vida e Caffe on Somerset Road, Greenpoint. It’s open between 9am and 4:30 during the week, and from 9am – 12pm on Saturdays.

I like the carpet, where’s that from?
skinnylaminx
The carpet is vintage, bought from a local props and vintage store. I know nothing more about it, I’m afraid. x
helene magnusson
Aren’t you going to end up proposing carpets matching your tea towels? One day??
skinnylaminx
Hmm, you’re not the first person to suggest I try my hand at carpets. I like the idea. Watch this space. xx

Hello Heather,
I was in Capetown on Saturday and wanted to visit your shop, but when I arrived there at 12:20, it was UNFORTUNATELY already closed. Somebody told me that your shop would be open till 1pm, so I first went to the biscuit mill market and afterwards wanted to buy sooo much stuff from you, but just missed you. UNFORTUNATELY!!! I am back in Berlin since 2 hours now….so I guess, I will have to order online then. Should I order on your website to avoid etsy fees?
The shop looks FABOULUS! Good luck with it!!! I was very sad that I could not go in.

Oh Suse, that’s such bad news. We must have missed each other by a couple of seconds, as I hung around after 12 rearranging things in the shop. What a pity 🙁
Please do send me your order, either via Etsy or just in an email, and I’ll happily send it through. I have a 20% Coupon Sale on, so at least you’ll get a discount.
Thanks so much for your sweet comment, and for the good luck wishes!
