Much Better Badges, but still…
Sheesh, what poofy market photos in yesterday’s post. Those badges were totally not done justice to. I mean, justice to badges was totally not done, was it? So here’s a closeup pic, showing some of mine and some of Jesse’s too.
Anybody got any ideas why my photos are so grainy and yuk? They always seem to have been taken through a lens smeared with sago pudding. Any handy hints from experienced bloggers will be gratefully recieved.
Ooh, I saw Jesse’s new badge designs for next month’s market. Mmm… Get a sneak preview here.

Have you fiddled with the contrast and saturation much? I’m guilty of fiddling too much and getting some startling results, but restrained adjustments do help.

Hi Heather
Have been very much enjoying your blog, found via Jesse’s blog. So much beautiful work on both your blogs!
The ‘graininess’ of the photos looks to have something to do with the optimisation for web delivery (e.g. a lower quality JPG setting). I don’t know if you optimise them yourself or if it’s done automatically via Blogger – but perhaps try opting for a higher quality JPG setting if you’re given the option. It will make the file size slightly bigger, and therefore download time slightly longer, but if image quality is a priority (and we all know it is 🙂 then that might do the trick.
Thanks for sharing your work – lovely stuff!

Hey Heath!
I always find when shooting with my digital and the light is not the greatest that a “grainy” image always appears. And to shoot with flash is awful. What I do now is shoot with film and get the negs scanned to disk and then save them into my iPhoto on my Mac. Film is so much better! The Jpeg issue mentioned by Suzanne can also be a problem.

Thanks, chaps. Your comments are much appreciated and hopefully an improvement will soon be apparent. This weekend I thought it also might be wise to take the long-overdue step of starting to read my digital camera’s instruction manual.
