I’ve had a blast!
Wow, I really needed that. I’ve been feeling on the verge of burning out lately, with the tyranny of the To Do list looming far too large in my mind. A plan had to be made, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week were spent hiding behind an email ‘Away’ message while I mucked about in the studio, and already I feel like a different person.
Monday saw me earnestly sewing purse samples, Tuesday I drove around, procrastinating, and Wednesday & Thursday found me my mojo, spending the day with fabric paint, lino stamps, bits of fabric, and absolutely no goals or intentions. I’ve had a blast!
Chuck in a bit of studio sorting, more sewing, and a coffee with a friend, and this week has been a total tonic. Without a doubt, I need more of that tonic in more frequent doses, so next time you’re trying to get hold of me, please be patient if you get my ‘away’ message – I’m probably sploshing ink about the place.

It is so necessary to sometimes just splosh the paint about. I started hating art 2 years into a fine art degree and it was when I attended a random workshop one day and had to make a piece of ‘art’ as if I was demonstrating something to a child, and just splashed paint about, that I realised I actually still love art. Play is very important for grown-up artists:)

What lovely projetcts! the grey and pink fabric is absolutely fab.
I just went through exactly the same phase after sending two books to the printer (I am a paper engineer and illustrator) , and too, decided that I need more of what I call “creative time” .
Our brains need some time off to bring back the mojo. I am always at awe to see how many ideas come to me when I just stop to fry my brain with the to do list.
And I could do with a little studio organising, too…

So nice to hear from you, and to discover your lovely work on your blog. I try to take every Friday for studio play, but sometimes it takes longer than that to get into the mode. A week really is what we need to slow down the ‘I should do…” brain and get the “I want to do…” brain back on the boiler! Have a lovely weekend,

I want a day like this! As soon as I’ve worked through this latest batch of stock, I’m bunking off for a day of studio play.
The results of your experiments are so nice!

Do it! Working under deadline demands is a killer. Make something for fun for a change! (that’s where it all started, after all)

YAY!
Here’s to more time out for making… and just being you.
I find my productivity ramps up when I take time away to just do what I feel like.
