In June, my bloke showed three of his works at a big exhibition at the Gulbenkian Institute in Lisbon. He’s been working on a large tile project himself, for Spier Architectural Arts, and is really into pattern, so was naturally blown away by tile and pattern riches he saw in Lisbon. One of the gifts …

Spier Architectural Arts
I stepped into a very exciting world yesterday, when I paid a visit to the Spier Architectual Arts building on Commercial Street in the city. It’s a lovely old building, but there’s little to make you guess at the large-scale vision and projects being tackled, the skills being grown, and the sheer busy-ness going on …

Making Friday… is now on Monday?
I started my Making Friday routine because I didn’t seem to have any time to spend in the studio, so I had to schedule it in. In particular, I needed time in which to tackle non work-related projects, as I find these “just for fun” things seem to inevitably provide the basis for future design …

I’ve seen the work growing in the studio, but it’s always so different in a gallery space. Very excited to see. Read more about Season on the Stevenson Gallery website.

Vera and Grace
I had a super bumper collection from the post office this week. Unfortunately, only one of Paul’s online-bought birthday presents was amongst that lot (Flip! Birthdays are unmissable deadlines, and I missed this one BADLY), but I certainly scored with my vintage Vera scarf from Luola, and my copy of Grace Coddington’s memoir, too. If …

Season
I visited Paul in his studio last week, to take a peek at what he’s working on for his upcoming show, opening 4 July at Stevenson Gallery in Joburg. No sneak peeks of the work, I’m afraid, but plenty of fodder for snaps.

Eye Chart cut out
I made this Eye Chart cutout illustration for an event held by the Book Lounge on Friday night. The occasion was Picador’s 40th birthday bash, and the Book Lounge asked a number of local artists to donate black and white works to be auctioned for charity. I missed the event, but heard over the weekend …
