Colour Book 2015/16: Fruit Salad

One of my biggest jobs every year is styling and photographing our catalogues. This year, I really had a good time working on the Colour Book, where I created five distinct looks that showcase the Diggi Dot collection, and also shows how it integrates with the existing Skinny laMinx prints. It’s a LOT of work, but a really good way for me and the rest of the team to get very familiar with the new designs and how they fit into the Skinny laMinx family.

I thought it might be fun to let you in on how I styled and shot each of the looks in this year’s Colour Book, with some ideas for styling these looks yourself too.

The first look I shot is one I called Fruit Salad.

If you’ve been following Skinny laMinx for a while, you’ll have spotted that red zigzag lamp making regular appearances in our shop window and in my other shoots too. It’s a great lamp for zinging things up a bit, isn’t it?

That green chair was a lucky find at Milnerton market, where I turned up two of these angular beauties, in a rather bedraggled state, and (wierdly) upholstered in orange macrame. But cleaned up, powdercoated green, and covered with my Simple Stripe in signal red, they made the perfect centrepiece for this look.

An italian vase from Vamp furniture, a fiddle leaf fig and a string of bunting made from Diggi Dot offcuts, and voila! The Fruit Salad is done, and it’s simply delicious!

My inspiration for this look was this awesome shoot by Monique van der Reijden & Dewi Pinitih that I spotted in Elle Decoration and kept on my pinboard for months.

Find bright zig zagging lamps at Jielde, or scour vintage shops like Vamp Furniture for interesting 50’s style standing lamps.

Actually,  Vamp Furniture is always worth stopping at, because they find really interesting things. I’m soooo tempted by that big tiger, aren’t you?

 

And once you’ve found your interesting things, they need an unusual means of display, like these by Martino Gamper

Fiddle Leaf Figs are great, but who needs real plants when there are these ceramic succulents by Lina Cofan? Not me!

 

And, of course, the finishing touch must be lots and lots of cushions from Skinny laMinx.
