O.live’s Christmas window
O.live’s Christmas window
O.live in Kloof Street always have the most gorgeous window displays, and it’s a big thrill when I see some of my things included there. Their black and white Christmas window had my lasercut perspex decorations in the mix, so I took some pics.
I know, I’ve been awfully neglectful, not posting anything about these decorations on this blog. I’m just working on some packaging ideas, and then I’ll have them in my shop, I promise.
Talking of the shop, I’ve finally opened it for 2009. It’s all familiar stuff in there right now, but I’ll be adding a brand new tea towel and cushion tomorrow, so do pop in.

What is laser cut? I hear the term a lot these days, but not sure of the process. Sounds so innovative!

Oh, laser cutting is one of many marvellous CNC cutting techniques. Some use blades, others use water jets or routing bits, but basically, they’re all computer-operated cutting tools. The computer gets the information about what you want to have cut by means of a Vector file, which is, I suppose, just a complex set of instructions about positions on a grid, and then the laser or knife or waterjet etc follows these directions to cut whatever it is you want cut!
It’s fantastic!

Oh, and PS: CNC cutters are very expensive machines – not for hobbyists! I know a guy who makes architectural models, and he does bits of laser cutting for me, and my husband uses another company who has a much more powerful laser cutter for cutting steel.

Cool beans! Your work is a natural for this. I bet it’s easy to see everything in some sort of laser cut fashion.

Those decorations are beautiful! This is my first time at your blog, and I’ll definitely be coming back. Very beautiful work!

I gave a friend some of these in red for Christmas and she’s now using them super successfully as coasters!

This shop window looks really nice. I really wouldn’t be able to walk past with out stopping to have a look
