Is this normal?
Is this normal?
By taking my two beautiful new Gustavsberg pots over to the flokati rug, photographing them and then posting them on the blog, I’m kind of assuming that those reading this might also indulge in similarly odd behaviour, am I right?
Of course, you’d first have to be lucky enough to come across these two, hesitate over them for a whole week, before finally taking the plunge and making the purchase.
And then you’d have to find yourself to be even luckier than you thought, when you discover that these pots were designed by no other than your design hero Stig Lindberg, sending you on an orgy of Google searches for more and more and more of his brilliant design work.
And then, of course, just like me, you’d put together a little Stig collage and a collection of links, just to make sure that you are not alone in your obsessive little world. Enjoy!
There are some lovely photos at Retrohome, and more at Modernity. General biographical pages seem to be thin on the ground, but there’s one here, and Swedish eBay-style site Tradera has loads of yummy goods.
If any other Stig freaks have good links to share, please let me know.
updates:
Thanks to Janne for a link to this book on Stig Lindberg
And did you know that Stig Lindberg’s Bersa coffee cup and saucer had been re-released? It’s available at Huset.

yup. totally normal.
except i can’t really photograph anything on my flokati (who knew it was called that?) rug b/c of the embarrassing amount of cat hair that’s also on it. 🙂 and mine’s probably not real, since it’s from ikea.
p.s. i learned about this posting being up from your TWEET! so it’s working! 😉 except there’s still no avatar.

Let's hope it's normal, cause I'm the same way…
There might not be so much Stig L. stuff online, but I have a great book, which I'm sure you know of.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stig-Lindberg-Tusenkonstnaren/dp/4939102718/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240400751&sr=1-1
(It's very expensive now, though..)
Beautiful pots! I want them too.

Hm. Well, you’re not too crazy. At least you are not lying beside your new purchases on your flotaki rug holding them lovingly in your arms in warm embrace…. or maybe you did… and you’re just not showing us!
Heather Moore
But now you’ve put the idea in my head, i may just go and have a snuggle…
Thanks for the book link, Janne. FAR too pricey for me, but maybe one day when I’m crazy rich.
xx

Oh yes, I know what you mean… Yesterday I had some friends over for dinner. For the coffee I had bought these delicoious strawberry cakes. When I served them I thought they looked so beautiful in their red and brown colors, that I had to take a picture, for a later post on my blog. I think maybe my friends are beginning to think that something is wrong with me. Taking photos of the cake…

Perfectly normal behaviour!
What a great find Heather, I love Stig Lindberg designs especially the stem print one that you have a picture of, lucky you!
orange you lucky!
Are you talking to me? I am one of the other ‘freaks’ that like Stig Lindsbergs work a tad too much:)
Thanks for this post!

I’ve never heard of him but I am totally in love with his designs! I love mid century style pieces.

Heather,
Thanks for the link love. I too am a Stig Lindberg obsessive fan, and have been for quite some time.

Don’t worry – some people out here (read: me) do exactly the same (maybe not on the flokati rug!)
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your post! More please!!!

I feel the same way about your designs as you do about these:) (among other things that I love — like Anna Maria Horner’s fabric, Jezze’s ceramic cups, Sarah Jane Studios’ prints, etc….and more)

Ah, great to know I’m a freak amongst freaks! And Joyce, that’s quite something to say. I’m hugely flattered. Hugely!

I sympathise completely – I’m sure my neighbours think I’m mad “what’s she doing out on the lawn with a stuffed animal and a camera? Why is she now putting it in a bush? Do you think this will bring down the value of our house much?”

Couldn’t be more normal. Lucky, lovely find.

Okay, Cicada’s comment totally cracked me up!!!

Gustavsberg Bersa Coffee Cup…OK that’s me done for today, the mind can only take in so much luscious design and then it needs to rest! Thanks for the link.

Oh, I love you so, pure & simple! You are not alone in this, I assure you.

I went in to a vintage shop here in Stockholm today and they had a wall full of Stig Lindberg porcelain on shelves. Superexpensive though, but it was lovely just seeing all those colors and patterns together.
