Making Friday – 18 May
I had a cracker of a Making Friday last week, tucking into an episode of bag-making in a way that bag-making requires, especially when there are recessed zips and other occasions for cussing and head-scratching involved. I started with some sketches, and then remembered that I’d made a little slingbag a few years back, and had a pattern drawn up from it, but had never taken it further. So I took it further, returning to a lovely patch of sun on my worktable every time I had to put my seam ripper to work again.
Et voila! I’ve not included closeups in these pics, as this bag really has been unpicked a lot, and my stitching isn’t super-straight, but I’m happy with the way it turned out and like the bright red zip with the grey print. I test-drove it over the weekend, and found it a really useful little trot-down-the-road bag, with my phone in the outside pocket, and sunglasses, keys and money inside.
I’d love to know what you think of it? Shall I make a couple to sell? Let me know what your ideal bag is all about.

I love the way the red zipper pops on this bag. It reminds me of one of my favorite painters and the way he used red (http://www.winslowhomer.org/breezing-up.jsp )
My thoughts on bags:
1. I love backpack bags–your hands are free and the weight is off your shoulders.
2. I love washable bags that you can toss in a lingerie bag and get nice and clean.
3. I love many compartments so everything has a place
4. I love bags that have little slots for pens and pencils
Have a great day! Kate

Hi Kate
Thanks so much for your very clear feedback. Extremely useful! I’ll definitely keep it in mind. Also, for letting me know about Winslow Homer, which is a new discovery for me.
Hope you have a great day too,
Heather

It’s a perfect wee bag and wonderfully designed. So fun to see it with your fingerprints over all, from design to fabric to color of zipper. Great job!
