Up, Up and Away! inspiration
Even if I say so myself, the Up Up & Away fabric collection that I designed for Cloud9 Fabrics is totally gorgeous! And now they’re in my Cape Town shop, you can get your itchy, stitchy little fingers on them too.
The ten designs in the collection are all printed by Cloud9 Fabrics on organic cotton, which is great for quilting, but if that’s not what you’re into, they’re also brilliant for loads of other sewing projects. I’ve been playing with my stash, and have a bit of inspiration for you:
These little smock dresses don’t need much more than just a metre of fabric.
And if you have any leftovers, you can make a pencil case or two.
Cloud9 Fabrics has been sending these prints out to fabric stores all over the world (find a list of fabric shops on the Cloud9 website), and there are some awesome things that have been made with Up, Up & Away.
Just look at this gorgeous quilt by Maureen Cracknell. Isn’t it beautiful? See more pics and read more about it on the Maureen Cracknell Handmade blog, and if you’re inspired to make your own (respect!) Maureen has made a free downloadable PDF of the pattern, which you can get right here.
On Instagram, I spotted these dear little purses that Sew LA fabric store has made. I love the combination with Eloise Renouf’s leaves.
Pop into my shop at 201 Bree St, or if you’re not in Cape Town, email Astrid to get some sent to you. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with them.
PS: Check in again soon for more Up Up & Away inspiration.

Love love love. This fabric brings a smile to my face on a very sad day.

These are great! I love the black and red birds/dots pattern paired with the red and white dots pattern…so freakin’ charming.

Love these fabrics and I adore those little dresses. Would you mind sharing the name of the dress pattern please. Thanks

Hi Mel
Thanks for the kind words. I’m afraid I don’t have a pattern name, as it’s a pattern I adapted from an existing vintage dress. Best,
Heather

Thanks anyway, it is delightful 🙂

I just came across your fabrics via Red Pepper Quilts. I really love them and will look out for them in the UK. I’ve been to Cape Town and I think I can see where you get your inspiration, especially the birds – lovely.Just thinking how I can incorporate them into a quilt one day!

Thanks so much for the kind words, Judy. If you ever do use my fabrics, I’d love to see what you’ve made, so do send me a pic.
Best,
Heather
