Colour thinking
12 Dec 2013
I’ve been holed up in my studio this week, with scissors and pinking shears in hand, as I hack into mounds of my printed offcuts, putting together colour groups as I think about next year’s fabric collection. It’s a wild life, this!
I do try to think of how the colours all tie in together – largely because we already have so many colours, and it’s a huge job managing their continuity! With my next collection though, I’d like to fill a green and a blue gap that I’ve noticed in the Skinny colour range, so this is definitely informing my choices. It really is so great playing with swatches of my existing prints, as I often come across combos I’ve never considered before, and then I can make those kinds of arrangements in my shop and in a shoot, helping me to see things in new ways.
My job is fun, and particularly so in the last few months, where I have ended up with a magical team of people, who are so super-competent and enthusiastic about doing their bit that I’m able to spend ‘proper’ time in my studio, rather than snatching occasional hours here and there. Feeling VERY lucky at the moment. Long may it last.

love it – must be fun to play like this.

Interesting!
So do you consider how each year will coordinate with previous years? I’d never thought about that (because I’ve never sold a collection!).
Do you have a formula or a feeling about introducing new colors each year?
I love your work, Heather! I hope it’s as fun and glamorous from the inside as it looks from the outside!

Hi Karin
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated.
