    Making Friday: Light dots

    23 Apr 2014

    Light Dot

Sometimes, when you’re at your desk, pen poised, but not sure what you want to do, you’ve just got to use what you’ve got. On Friday, what I had was a scattering of of light coming through the blinds onto my drawing pad. It’s all about making a start, and it may not result in the best pattern in the world, but at least you’re not staring at a blank page any more.

At this point I elbowed the rest of the bottle of green ink all over the table, which kind of brought this exercise to an abrupt end, but it had set me off, and I had a very good Making Friday indeed.

This post delighted me. It is an acute description of the creative process…I often go through the similar steps…up to the elbowing of the ink. Hum. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I love both the story about the process and the resulting pattern! Sorry about the ink incident… Last week, I gave a vigorous shake to my white acrylic ink bottle (the pigments always separate and stand at the bottom), and surprise! I had already done that, and unscrewed the cap… which means I had nice, dense, acrylic ink on every possible surface of my studio, including my face and my clothes. I hope your experience was less traumatic. 🙂

Oh yikes, that sounds appalling! My green ink was not much more than a puddle on the desk (that I found later to have also dripped down the back of the table onto the floor), so I think I got off quite lightly there. I’ve just done a quick catch-up on your blog(s) and instagram. Am so impressed with your prolific sketch-a-day project! Keep going 🙂

I am a little late replying to this post, but Its nice to hear about the process of another artist pushing through that creative block. That block happens to me way more often than i like! I want you to know that i can never look at the patterns from the mini blinds again and not think of your brilliant idea! I want to draw on my walls when i see them in the morning when i first wake up. what the heck…maybe i will… 🙂
