Friends & Neighbours: Jason Bakery
In 2012, Bree Street was not the bustling food-and-shopping district that it is today, so one of my top reasons for moving to this neighbourhood was because I’d be near to the best bread, coffee and croissants in Cape Town, thanks to Jason Bakery just half a block away.
2014 was the year Cape Town was World Design Capital, with a big yellow dot as the visual identity, so to get into the mood we covered Jason’s outdoor cushions in our Pebble print, in pollen. Those yellow dots held up to a good couple of years of bums on seats, until we replaced them with our Woodpile print in smudge. And now, with Pantone having announced the colour of the year as ‘Greenery’, and we’ve just refreshed their look again, with bright green cushions in our ZigZag and Fronds prints.
So the moral of this story is not only that we love Jason’s and we’re delighted to decorate their outdoor seats, but also that we’re also really happy to see how well our fabrics have taken a pretty solid beating.
On average, Jason’s have used the cushion pad covers for two years, with about 300 bottoms using them daily, and with a trip to the laundry every two weeks (unless a coffee goes flying, of course). The cleaners haven’t been obeying our advice of cold wash and mild detergent, and yet the print has withstood the hard work exceptionally well. In the pic below, you can see one of the Woodpile cushions after two years of hard use, with the only evidence of age as some wear and tear on the piping.
So next time you visit Jason’s (just before you tuck into your coffee and cranberry danish), take a moment to look at the new cushions in the Fronds and ZigZag prints in our brazil colourway. We’ve left the piping off this time around, so these cushions will be there for the long haul.
