Skinnylaminxenstein: Shopping and Investigative Journalism
Gosh, have you read Jacques Pauw’s book, The President’s Keepers? I’ve only seen excerpts so far, but what I’ve read is pretty explosive, and has jolted me out of my news cycle fatigue.
Frankly, I feel weird about just carrying on with business as usual, and while helping people curate a perfect pillow selection is not a useless endeavour (and it is a great way to employ 15 people), but I want to do more with all the resources we have at hand.
So, I’m making a start this week, at our INDIA EYES event where, aside from the shopping, we’ll be holding a raffle with the lofty intention of helping our democracy.
We’ve made up a fabulous INDIA EYES hamper, full of things I found on my travels, which you could win if you enter the raffle by buying a ticket for R20, and all the funds raised will be donated to the AmaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism , which deserves support not only for their “Digging Dung, Fertilizing Democracy” motto, but also for their journalists’ fearless commitment to serving South Africa. Read more about them here.
We’ll have raffle tickets for sale (cash only) for the whole of November, and will announce the winner in early December.
