A Good Start to a good day
Every Wednesday morning, Paul and I are out of the house before dawn, off to join the Breakfast Club, where a bunch of volunteers cook and serve breakfast to the little learners at Good Hope Seminary Junior School.
By 8:30am, tummies are full, and about 400 cups, bowls and spoons have been washed and packed away, ready to happen all over again the next day.
This daily early-morning burst of activity started about 4 years ago, when Patsy Bagraim and Aletta Ashmore, founders of the Breakfast Club, and the GoodStart Trust were volunteering on reading and learning programmes at the school, and found that lots of the kids were sleepy and lacked concentration.
When they realised how many kids leave home super early, often without time for breakfast, they saw a way to help, and started serving school breakfasts, first with just the Grade 1 classes, and now to every class in the school. Every single day. And it shows in the school results, too!
We love the Breakfast Club programme, and want to help them keep up their good work, so here’s our contribution:
When you buy one of our Seriously Have a Good Day shopper bags (modelled above by Patsy and Aletta), we’ll donate 20% of each sale to the Breakfast Club.
Already have enough bags in your life? No problem. You can donate directly to the Breakfast Club via the Trust, with all the tax benefits of a Section 18A, to boot!
