Make your own Eyechart Wallhanging
We recently launched the EYECHART tea towel to help the Visionbox Foundation raise funds, and you can read all about the amazing work they do to help people see more clearly, even if they can’t afford a pair of specs.
EYECHART is a good-looking tea towel (excuse the pun) so instead of using it to dry the dishes, perhaps you might display it on the wall, so here’s a tutorial to show you how to turn a tea towel into a wall hanging.
YOU NEED:
- 1 x EYECHART tea towel
- 2 x wooden dowel rods, measuring 52cm / 8.5″
- Pins
- 120cm / 47″ black string
- A hacksaw
- A sewing machine.
STEP 1
- Fold top and bottom hem to back of tea towel, pinning a 3cm / 1.2″ fold (see ablove)
- Stitch both folds with a sewing machine, leaving sides open (see below)
STEP 2
- Use the hacksaw to cut a channel into both sides of one of the dowel rods (see above)
- Feed the dowel with the cut channel into the top fold of the tea towel.
- The second dowel goes into the channel at the bottom (see below)
STEP 3
- Tie a knot between the two ends of your length of string (see above).
- Now notch the string into the cut channels at each end of the top dowel (see below)
STEP 4
- Make sure the knot hangs behind your wallhanging and that the string sits firmly in the dowel notches.
STEP 5
- Knock a nail in the wall, hang it up, and you’re done!
