New Prints : Freedom, Change, Progress & Shift
The whole world has endured a shared experience of loss and fear during the Pandemic, and now we share the hope for a time of renewal, optimism, growth and change.
Today we launch four Risograph prints, expressing this hope in a graphic rendering of the way we mark time, the beauty of small shifts, and the importance of presence and participation in the process of growth and change.
INSPIRATION
Being confined at home during the Covid19 Pandemic Lockdown made me notice things I’d not seen before.
Our cats knew the way the light moves across the room all day, but I’d never tracked it myself.
Now I noticed the stacked shapes made by light through the blinds, and how these shards of light change as they cross the rug.
This slow progression reminded me of the art school exercises I’d seen on the walls of my hotel during a trip to Porto in Portugal in 2019 (see below). I became intrigued to explore the progression of shapes myself – almost like seeing all the frames of a time-lapse animation at once.
EXPLORATION
In my studio and sketchbooks, I explored this idea of progression, in drawings of botanical and geometric shapes, making linocut prints and simple screenprints with masking tape and fabric paint.
Two of these turned into textile prints, launched earlier in 2022 :
The botanical progressions turned into the Flower Ring fabric design, and one of the masking tape prints became the Shard textile print.
COLLABORATION
Then, working with the same idea, but in a new medium, I worked with Candice Jezek of Dreampress Publishing to produce four limited edition Risograph prints.
These prints are a further expression of the way we mark time, the beauty of small shifts, and the importance of presence and participation in the process of growth and change.
Freedom, Change, Progress and Shift are A3 sized, unframed, and sold in a very limited edition.
